RESUMO

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 commonly presents with upper respiratory symptoms; however, studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 infection affects multiple organ systems. Here, we review the pathophysiology and imaging characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection in organ systems throughout the body and explore commonalities. OBJECTIVE: Familiarity with the underlying pathophysiology and imaging characteristics is essential for the radiologist to recognize these findings in patients with COVID-19 infection. Though pulmonary findings are the most prevalent presentation, COVID-19 may have multiple manifestations and recognition of the extrapulmonary manifestations is especially important because of the potential serious and long-term effects of COVID-19 on multiple organ systems.

RESUMO

Xanthogranulomatosis is an idiopathic, rare process in which lipid-laden histiocytes may deposit in various locations in the body, which if systemic is called Erdheim-Chester disease. A rare case of isolated retroperitoneal, bilateral perinephric xanthogranulomatosis is reported. The diagnosis was suspected on cross-sectional imaging and was confirmed by CT-guided percutaneous core biopsy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to describe the CT findings of pancreatic lipomas in four patients. CONCLUSION: In all four cases, the lipoma was revealed incidentally on CT scans obtained for other reasons. CT scans were diagnostic, showing well-circumscribed masses within the pancreas composed almost entirely of fat, with a few scattered vessels or septa or both, which ranged in size from 1.4 x 2.0 cm to 4.5 x 5.3 cm in the axial plane. Pancreatic lipomas are rare, usually incidental tumors and, as with lipomas found elsewhere in the body, conservative management is often indicated.

RESUMO

We believe MR findings to be quite characteristic of primary lymphedema. We believe that MR has a role in diagnosing lymphedema and its complications.

RESUMO

Cecal volvulus is a rare, but potentially fatal, cause of intestinal obstruction. As computed tomographic (CT) scanning is often the initial diagnostic test in patients with acute abdominal pain, we reiterate the importance of the "whirl sign" in diagnosing intestinal volvulus. We report the first description of the CT diagnosis of cecal volvulus.

RESUMO

An unusual presentation of a case of myeloblastoma (granulocystic sarcoma, chloroma) as demonstrated by computed tomography (CT) and selective angiography is reported. Our patient, who presented with acute hydrocephalus due to a large posterior fossa myeloblastoma, had no evidence of systemic disease in either peripheral blood smear, bone marrow aspiration, lumbar puncture or further metastatic workup. While no evidence for generalized disease was seen, systemic chemotherapy may help to prevent overt systemic leukemia.
